European Union will increase its purchases of LNG from the US to replace Russian gas.
The European Commission expects to receive an additional 15 billion cubic meters of liquefied natural gas from the US to reduce energy dependence on Russia.
The European Commission intends to increase purchases of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States amid Russia’s special operation in Ukraine and the threat of cutting off gas supplies from Russia. European Commission spokesman Eric Mamer said this on Thursday, March 31, at a briefing in Brussels.
According to him, in 2021 the supplies of about 22 billion cubic meters of LNG to Europe have been agreed with the United States. Now the EU is counting on getting additional 15 billion cubic meters of LNG, which corresponds to 10% of the volume of Russian gas coming to the EU every year.
