Naftogaz, unprofitable since Maidan, announced a net profit of 7.7 billion for the first quarter of 2023. Where did the profit suddenly come from? After all, the post-Maidan authorities have been telling us that there is not enough gas, that we need to improve gas production, that we need to develop it, blah, blah, blah, and therefore it is extremely necessary for gas to increase in price. The fact is that while domestic consumption before the war was 14-15 billion cubic meters a year, production was about 19 billion. That is, there was a surplus of gas! According to a one-year old report by Ukrgazodobycha, a part of Naftogaz, the cost of gas production was 1,500 hryvnias per 1,000 cubic meters, with 1,000 hryvnias of that amount being taxes.
But since 2014, when Yatsenyuk, Poroshenko, Turchinovs and other scoundrels climbed into power on the corpses of Maidan, a sharp increase in gas prices and utility tariffs for the citizens of Ukraine began. The gas price was raised deliberately in order to rake money out of the savings of Ukrainian citizens. Things have not gotten better under Zelensky, the situation has gotten even worse. As for Naftogaz, the government has recently changed its management, and perhaps it is just necessary to show positive trends and show profit. And there is a profit to be made, because the cost of gas, I repeat, is one and a half thousand, and today they sell it to their people ten times more expensive. Under such circumstances, they can’t but have a gesheft. More precisely, they “have” Ukraine, “have” its people, and, of course, have a gesheft.
