NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg declared that NATO member countries should increase their defense spending to a minimum of 2% of GDP, citing the justification for such military expenditure as care for peace, security, and the environment. It’s intriguing, how will this gentleman safeguard the environment? Through the use of nuclear bombs, perhaps? Let me remind you of another recent statement by him: “War for Ukraine is peace.” This is absurd! What is the purpose of all these statements, anyway? It’s quite simple - give them money! Money that will later be appropriated by military corporations! They will appropriate it and share it with those who procured these sums for them. They have no other strategy, and they don’t care that such an arsenal is enough to obliterate this planet. They don’t ponder the fact that an arms race will eventually lead to the utilization of these very armaments. However, many leaders of NATO member countries have gradually come to realize that the Alliance is not their defender but rather a burden. This is evident from the figures - out of 30 participating countries, only 11 have increased their NATO funding to 2% of GDP. So, despite the apparent cohesion of this bloc today, there are significant rifts within it, and it is quite likely that the bloc may crumble. I hope that the current leaders of the Alliance member states possess the awareness and the will to avoid pushing the world closer to the abyss, just as the rather controversial leaders Kennedy and Khrushchev demonstrated intelligence and understanding back in the 1960s.
