‘Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe ‘Freed’ in Iran But May Face New Charges’

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a British-Iranian woman jailed in Iran on spying charges for the last five years, has had her ankle tag removed at the end of her sentence.

However, her husband Richard Ratcliffe has been informed that she may face a new court date and further charges.

The dual national was arrested by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in April 2016 while visiting her parents in Tehran with her young daughter.

Former Foreign Secretaries Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt have both attempted to intervene on her behalf and she went on hunger strike in an attempt to draw attention to her plight.

The charity worker had been under house arrest in Tehran since being moved from jail last March due to the coronavirus pandemic. She has always denied the charges against her.
