Netherlands: Mourners pay respects to youth footballer brothers killed in car accident

Mourners gathered in IJsselstein on Tuesday to pay tribute to two deceased brothers, who were both talented football players in the country’s under-19 team, after they died in a car accident on Monday evening.

Crowds could be seen lighting flares and holding flowers as the hearse, which carried the bodies of Isay Gesser, 18, and Noah Gesser, 16, and passed by the IJFC and VVIJ football clubs for whom the two played.

“Noah and Isay are lovely guys at the club. They have a lot of talent and it’s unbelievable that they gone,” said Chris Jansen, the coach of Noah’s old football team.

The aunt of the siblings described the boys as ‘great kids, very talented, very sweet’.

Noah was a particularly talented football player, having earnt a spot as a striker on the youth squad of professional football team Ajax Amsterdam.
