New beak gives parrot a second chance at life

Not long ago, this parrot faced a grim future. With its beak mostly damaged, the parrot’s chances of survival were very low. This man, who runs a rescue group in Brazil, decided to save this parrot’s life. Along with a doctor, they worked to get the parrot a new beak.

These remarkable photos show what it took to build a custom prosthetic. And here the doctor can be seen with the parrot outfitted with the new beak. Such beaks can improve a bird’s life significantly. While the beak is said to be quite resistant to damage, the rescue group has determined it’s best that the parrot be not released back into the wild.
