Hospitals are coming for your money! A Times investigation found nonprofit hospitals are not offering free care instead pressuring their poorest patients for payment. And sending debt collectors after them if they didn’t pay. With a focus on Providence, one of the largest chains of nonprofit hospitals in the country. Which receives a $1 billion tax credit from the IRS with the requirement of providing free service to the poor. But in 2021, Providence reportedly spent less than 1% of its expenses on charity care.
