Kim Jong Un is trying to steal your money! North Korea has increasingly relied on cryptos as another revenue stream and uses its Lazarus Group to hack exchanges and accounts for hundreds of millions. One of its most infamous heists occurred last spring when it stole nearly $600 million of crypto from the developers of NFT-game Axie Infinity. However, not all of its ill-gotten gains make their way back to the Kim regime. US federal authorities managed to claw back about $30 million worth of crypto for Axie Infinity this last Thursday. Accounting for the dramatic crash in crypto prices since the heist, that’s about 12% of the total value stolen. So don’t be sad if your crypto gets stolen. Instead, think of it as a donation to Chairman Kim in North Kor…. oh wait.
