A commemoration ceremony was held in Oslo on Thursday to mourn the victims of Anders Behring Breivik, a white supremacist and far-right extremist, who killed 77 people, 10 years ago.
Visibly emotional survivors read aloud the names of the victims before a wreath-laying ceremony took place in the presence of the Prime Minister of Norway Erna Solberg, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Mari.
Leader of the National Support Group Lisbet Kristine Royneland, said, “What would those who were so brutally and unfairly killed think of us now 10 years later? I think they would be sad to know that there are still survivors and bereaved with great needs. I think they would be disappointed in seeing the public debate in many ways has moved in the wrong direction.”
“I also think they would be proud of us. Proud of how we reacted in the days after the terrorist attack and how our state under the rule of law firmly stood their ground in the face of brutality,” she added.
On July 22, 2011, neo-Nazi Anders Behring Breivik committed two separate deadly attacks. First he detonated a van bomb in the Oslo’s Government quarter, killing eight people, and shortly after murdered 69 mostly teen participants of Workers’ Youth League (AUF) summer camp on the island of Utoya.

SOT, Erna Solberg, Prime Minister of Norway (Norwegian): “The terror attack on the 22nd of July was an attack on our democracy. It was a politically motivated terrorist act towards The Labour Party, AUF and their ideas. But it wasn’t just an attack on a political movement. A whole nation was struck. But we rose again. But Norway changed by an experience which still causes pain.”
