Extinction Rebellion began a 10-day-action-plan in Oslo on Monday which will take place throughout the Scandinavian countries. On Monday morning around 150 activists began a sit-in at the Norwegian oil ministry, while there was a rally nearby the Royal Palace, along with a number of other acts.
“We can’t keep searching for oil the same way as we do. We need to find a way to phase it out. So that is why I am here today to demonstrate and to take direct action because nothing else seems to be sufficient to create the change that we need politically,” said student Eskil Roll-Hansen.
Norwegian energy minister Tina Bru responded to the groups plans. “We’ll never succeed in the fight against climate change if we scrap democracy on the way,” stated Bru.
Various rallies were planned on Monday and in the coming days to denounce the impact of the oil industry in one of the main oil producers in Europe.
