The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has announced a major incident following a surge in the Omicron Covid variant.

The latest government data has shown there are over 1,500 Covid patients in London hospitals with around 200 new admissions per day.

Some sites are offering a 24-hour ‘jabathon’ this weekend, as a record number of vaccinations are set to be delivered across the capital.

Sadiq Khan said the 26,000 new cases were having an impact on staff absences in the city’s emergency services.
