The Taliban flag was seen waving on the Afghan side of the border crossing near the Pakistani city of Chaman, on Wednesday, amid ongoing conflict for control over the strategic Afghan trading town of Spin Boldak and the withdrawal of US-led international forces from the area.

The Taliban have reportedly taken control of Spin Boldak according to local media and suspended all travel through the border crossing, leaving hundreds of people stranded.

The departure of foreign troops and the advance of the Taliban is contributing to mounting political and economic insecurity in the country. The Taliban said on Friday they have already seized control of 85 percent of Afghanistan. However, the Afghan government denies this claim.

In recent weeks, the rapid advances made by the Taliban have raised concerns that the Afghan government could fall after the final departure of the US and other troops that is set to be completed by September.
