Afghan women fleeing the Taliban shared their stories at the Chaman border crossing on Friday, as Afghans continued to enter Pakistan.
“Because of the war, hospitals were closed and there’s no doctors. We have come to Pakistan for our treatment. Every department there, including the hospital, was closed,” one woman said.
Another woman said, “the Taliban took control of all the cities and markets. There were no wages. Then we were forced to come here. There was work and business in Afghanistan. There’s no medicine in the hospitals. There’s nothing.”
Afghans could be seen queueing to cross the border, many of whom were women fearing the uncertainty of the new Taliban government after the group’s forces took the capital on Tuesday.
The recent Taliban offensive followed the announcement in April that the US and other NATO states would be withdrawing their forces from the country.
