Albert’s rescue story - Paralyzed pup on wheels

Albert was found in a ditch a little over eight years ago in Arkansas. He was found paralyzed due to a broken spine. His fur was matted to the skin and he was very, very skinny. We’re very lucky that the right people spotted him and brought him to a vet where then a rescue stepped in and cared for him, until I saw his photo online.

I had never considered adopting a special needs pet, but something that night made me apply to adopt him. And after a bunch of phone interviews with the rescue, I was very happy to hear that I’d been chosen to be his mom. And we had arranged for him to travel over 1,000 miles from Arkansas to Connecticut to join our family. He came to Connecticut on a really cold October night and we brought him home to meet everyone. We had two other rescue dogs at the time, and he settled right in with our kids and dogs. 

He’s now been a part of our family for over eight years, and he’s the happiest, the bravest and the bossiest little dog. He loves to play on the beach. He loves to go to the lake with our other dogs. He loves to snuggle. He loves to travel and he basically just loves life. And he lives each day in the moment. I think my favorite thing about him is that he doesn’t feel sorry for himself because he truly does not think he’s different.  He’s just one of the guys. We did his DNA and he’s a mix of poodle Shih Tzu and Yorkie, but really he’s just 100% pure good boy.

Adopting Albert has definitely been one of my best decisions ever. He’s an extension of me. He’s my sidekick, and just my best friend. I love being his mom. And I’m here to make sure that every day of his life is amazing. I hope that people look at Albert and love themselves for whatever or whoever they are, because we think that different is beautiful.
