Peru: Chasqui books to go! Teacher delivers books to children in remote areas of Poroy

A primary education teacher working as a ‘chasqui’ (name given to messengers during the Inca empire) for ‘Chasqui Libro’ crosses remotes areas of the municipality of Poroy, just outside Cusco, with the hope of delivering books to children affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, as seen in footage filmed in Poroy on Tuesday.
“I am very happy to be able to get to their homes, when they see me they say: “The Chaski Book has arrived, the professor has arrived,” and they are excited and I am excited to see them and give them that little book that they have asked to help them,” stated teacher and book delivery Chasqui Jose Luis Duenas.
‘Chasqui Libro’ is an innovative book loaning service, with messengers willing to cover up to 12 miles (20 km) with nothing but a food delivery style backpack on their shoulders while crossing streams, dirt roads and hiking uphill.
