Peru: Military airlifts people stranded in Amazonas after earthquake

Helicopters of the Peruvian Air Force rescued victims stranded in the village of Nuevo Aserradero in the Amazonas, Thursday, five days after the 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit the country.

Among the evacuees were elderly people and patients with delicate medical conditions.

“Since Sunday I have been without insulin, every day I inject myself and I thank my friends who are giving me unconditional support,” shared one of the locals, Gregory Vallejos, who has diabetes.

Peruvian President Pedro Castillo assured that his administration will oversee the reconstruction of the most affected areas such as the Pedro Ruiz and Bagua Grande regions.
