Protesters in Quezon City took to the streets on Monday ahead of President Rodrigo Duterte’s ‘State of the Nation’ address.

Supporters from the Anakpawis Party-list, the working-class KMP movement and other progressive movements joined under the banner of ‘Wakasan Na!,’ which translates to end it, calling for the end of the Duterte administration.

“Death during the pandemic, death during the war on drugs, death of our sovereignty, and we will never forget how Duterte abandoned the peace talks. We were all bullied by Duterte,” remarked an activist while giving a speech to the crowd.

Protesters criticised the administration for the poor COVID response, unemployment, hunger, and poverty.

Duterte’s term is set to end in 2022 but has stated he may not endorse a new candidate.
