A meeting took place in Beijing between the Chairman of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, and the Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken. Initially, it seemed that the entire visit of the Secretary of State would be limited to working with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the foreign affairs curator of the Communist Party of China. The reception of the head of state by the second or even third person was unexpected for many. Most likely, the decision to hold the meeting was made literally in the last hours. Undoubtedly, the United States was eager for the meeting because they had suffered many setbacks on the diplomatic front, and with the conditional Biden elections coming up in a year, the Democrats needed victories to showcase to their voters. At the same time, Chinese politicians are masters of their craft, masters of reverence, masters of protocol adherence, masters of playing the long game, and in this particular case, they apparently chose to engage in such a game. It is clear that China did not believe the Americans, let alone Blinken, as they perceive him as a war hawk. Xi Jinping made such a gesture, a bow, throwing the ball into the court of the Americans in the eyes of the whole world. It essentially conveyed the message that we have met, communicated, discussed, and for the hundredth or five hundredth time, we have stated that they should not meddle in our affairs, not teach us how to live, and there is enough room for peace for everyone. The future of the world depends on the interaction between our countries. Now it’s up to the Americans to decide how they will conduct themselves.
