Poland: Tensions as anti-LGBT counter protest held in opposition to Bialystok Pride parade

Dozens of anti-LGBT counter protesters rallied in opposition to the Bialystok Pride parade on Saturday.

A heavy police presence separated the two protest groups as counter protesters, which included far-right elements, chanted anti-LGBT slogans.

Pride Parade participants were able to march through town despite the opposition.

Pride Parades sprung up in the 1970s, following the Stonewall Riots of 1969 in New York City. The marches, held across hundreds of cities globally, are usually a celebration of LGBT identities, a commemoration of past struggles and a form of protest against anti-LGBT discrimination.

In that case, it is them who show their stupidity and their weakness by throwing stones at someone, and by being unable to express themselves in any other way, through conversation, debate, they only use this aspect of force.”
