‘Police Fire Tear Gas at Covid Demonstrators in France’

Police officers in France have fired tear gas canisters at demonstrators resisting Covid restrictions. Protestors are blocking main roads in Paris, where vaccination passes are required for restaurants and many other venues.

Their tactics were inspired by the so-called “freedom convoy” demonstrations in Canada, which have clogged streets in Ottawa for more than two weeks.

Over 7000 officers were deployed ahead of the banned French protest. They set up checkpoints on key roads into the capital, and they’ve said they stopped more than 500 vehicles from heading to the protest. 54 people have been arrested, of which, according to the police, at least two had petrol cans, hammers and knives.
