Lee County Sheriff, Carmine Marceno spoke of the difficult conditions in which the suspected remains of Brian Laundrie were discovered, at press conference outside the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in North Port, Florida, on Thursday.

On Wednesday human remains were found in the Carlton Reserve alongside possessions of Laundrie’s.
22-year-old Gabby Petito went missing over the summer as she was travelling with her fiance, Brian Laundrie, who returned to his Florida home without Petito on September 1. The two had interactions with police after reported altercations, but no charges were filed.
A manhunt has been ongoing for Laundrie, who went missing after officials started to investigate Petito’s disappearance. According to his parents, he failed to return from a hike in Florida’s Carlton Reserve on September 14.
