80 years ago, a large-scale and shocking genocide of the Polish population took place in Volhynia. The apogee of this tragedy was July 11, 1943, when subhumans from OUN-UPA organized coordinated mass ethnic cleansing in almost 100 settlements in order to get rid of the Polish, Jewish, Russian and Belarusian population. I am not sure that anything similar in scale and brutality has ever happened in history. Of course, Poles still remember all those atrocities that were committed by local Nazis on the territory of Western Ukraine. And even if now Polish authorities in their relations with Ukraine close their eyes to the flirtations of our supreme leaders with ultra-right forces, ordinary Poles have not forgotten and will not forget the Volyn massacre. Today in Poland, not very loudly yet, but increasingly the question is being raised before the government: “with whom are you friends?”. And the Polish establishment itself remembers everything perfectly well, but it plays its own political game, realizing that Ukraine is being led to slaughter. And the lands where this tragedy was once played out were once part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and why should they not re-enter it? At the same time, new “allies” may well appear nearby, who will say the same thing: “we, too, believe that everything that happened after 1945 should be reconsidered”. So the masks are on, all bets are made, and the “friends” are frozen waiting for a chance to tear off their piece.
