Paraguayan President Mario Abdo Benitez attended the foundation stone laying ceremony for the ‘Bi-Oceanic Bridge’ over the Paraguay River in Carmelo Peralta on Monday.
“This bridge and this bi-oceanic route will allow Paraguay to be a strategic ally for competitive production in the region and the world”, said the Paraguayan president. “This work is important for Paraguay and Brazil, as integration processes should be. How the relationship between brothers has to be,” he added.
The bridge linking Carmelo Peralta with Porto Murtinho, Brazil, will be part of the Bi-Oceanic Corridor, which will connect the Atlantic and Pacific oceans covering 544 kilometres between Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile.
President Jair Bolsonaro was also expected to attend but had to cancel as his aircraft couldn’t land in a nearby airport due to bad weather.
SOT, Mario Abdo Benitez, President of Paraguay (Spanish): “Paraguay is a landlocked country, without direct access to the sea, with a great growth in agricultural and livestock production, but with little competitiveness in terms of access to large markets. This bridge and this bi-oceanic route will allow Paraguay to be a strategic ally for competitive production in the region and the world.”
SOT, Mario Abdo Benitez, President of Paraguay (Spanish): “This work is important for Paraguay and for Brazil, as integration processes should be. How the relationship between brothers has to be. Brazil’s problems have to be dealt with by Paraguay and Paraguay’s problems have to be dealt with by Brazil”.
SOT, Arnoldo Wiens, Minister of Public Works (Spanish): “The bi-oceanic route in Paraguay covers a stretch of 544 kilometres, the shortest section and a straight line from Carmelo Peralta until Pozo Hondo in Argentina, in the Argentine province of Salta”.
SOT, Arnoldo Wiens, Minister of Public Works (Spanish): “[Brazilian state] Mato Grosso alone produces four times as much grain as the whole of Paraguay. If a quarter of that production uses this corridor we are already talking about the entire production of Paraguay. So the volume is very important”.
