‘PUNCH UPS at Gas Pumps as Colonial Pipeline Hack Sends Fuel Supplies Plummeting’

Gas stations across the US east coast are running dry as fuel supply is hit by the shut down of the Colonial Pipeline following a cyber attack.

Russian hacker group DarkSide is being blamed for the ransomware attack which paralysed the pipeline’s computer networks and prompted managers to shut it down.

Their motivation is not clear, but previous cyber crimes indicate that the Robin Hood-style outfit is interested in extortion, rather than geopolitics.

The pipeline is now operating as normal, though it will be days before supplies are restocked.
