Alexei Navalny’s poisoning was unequivocally caused by the Soviet nerve agent Novichok, the German government has announced. 
 
Angela Merkel condemned the attack ‘in the strongest possible terms’ and is demanding Russia to provide an urgent explanation.
 
Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was poisoned on August 20. It’s suspected he ingested the nerve agent while flying back to Moscow from Tomsk in Siberia. 
 
The 44-year-old has been in a coma ever since, and doctors say his condition is serious but not life-threatening.
 
Supporters of the anti-corruption campaigner have accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of the attack, an allegation the Kremlin denies.
