The baby boom continues at the Cincinnati Zoo! Overnight the red-crowned crane’s chick hatched. This is the first chick for the Cincinnati Zoo since 2006. Red-crowned cranes are native to Asia and endangered in the wild. They incubate for 26-31 days and chicks stay with the parents around one year. They are one of the largest crane species and are very aquatic. They feed on invertebrates, fish, frogs, and opportunistically berries, grasses, and other plants.
