Romania: US military helicopter makes emergency landing during Bucharest drill

A US Air Force Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter made an emergency descent due to technical difficulties during a drill in Bucharest on Thursday.

The helicopter could be seen slowly descending out of formation into a residential area.

No injuries have been reported as a result of the incident, with the helicopter having managed to land on a street while damaging streets lights in the process.

The US helicopter was involved in a joint drill ahead of Romanian Air Force day on 20 July.

Romania has been a NATO member since 2004 and next week’s Air Force day is set to commemorate the end of Romania’s military presence in Afghanistan.
