Russia: ‘European consumer will be the one to suffer' - Moscow’s EU envoy on NS2 delay

Russia’s Permanent representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov warned that European consumers will be the ones who will suffer from the delays in the certification of the Nord Stream 2 during an online briefing held in Moscow on Tuesday.

“In the end, if we talk about who will suffer from delays in the certification of the Nord Stream 2, the European consumer will be the one to suffer, because he will have to pay more for the same Russian gas and wait, as the saying goes, for further developments,” stated Chizhov.

The construction of the pipeline was fully completed in September, although in order to start its operations, the Nord Stream 2 project needs to be certified by German and European regulators.

In December, Germany’s Federal Network Agency said that a decision on Nord Stream 2 will not be made until June 2022.
