Russia: Heavy smog blankets Yekaterinburg amid burning of peat bogs

The streets and roads ofc were covered with smog due to the burning of peat bogs.

Buildings, people and cars were enveloped in dense smog as shown in footage filmed on Thursday.

Due to smog, drivers have to move at low speed, which in turn causes congestion on the roads.

“Terrible weather. It’s impossible to even breathe at home. There is the smell of smoke, both in the entrance hall and in the apartments. Awful,” local resident Galina Kadryan said.

According to the EMERCOM press service, washing-down of peat bogs is carried out around the clock and 88 specialists and 26 pieces of equipment are involved in the operation. The smouldering of scattered fire sources persists on an area of 4.8 hectares.
