Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed the developments in Afghanistan during a joint press conference in Moscow on Friday.

According to the Russian leader, it was necessary to rule out external interference in the country. “You cannot impose standards of political life and behaviour on other people from outside,” said Putin.

“The Taliban movement controls almost the entire territory of the country,” he went on to, adding that “these are the realities and it is from these realities that we must proceed, preventing the collapse of the Afghan state.”

In turn, Merkel said that “it is very frustrating that the Taliban came back to power and took control of the country.

Earlier on Friday, German government spokesperson Ulrike Demmer that the German military has already evacuated more than 1,600 people on 11 flights from Kabul to Tashkent.
