Russia: "It's important to speak little and do a lot" – head of "New People" on party criticism

The leader of the ‘New People’ Party, Alexei Nechayev, commented on his party’s achievements after interim results of Russia’s State Duma elections were released on Sunday.

Nechayev said many people had told him that the party had received low ratings, to which he replied “people like to babble”. The politician then stated he believes “it’s important to speak a little, and to do a lot.”

His adviser, Sardana Avksentieva, said that the party’s “victory would be the achievement of our goals.”

According to the CEC, after processing just over 40 per cent of the ballots, United Russia leads with 45.5 per cent, followed by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (KPRF) on 21.7 per cent, the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) on 8.2 per cent, Fair Russia on 7.6 per cent, and the ‘New People’ faction at 6.2 per cent. Other parties have not yet hit the necessary 5 per cent mark, such as The Russian Party of Pensioners for Social Justice on 2.76 per cent of the vote, the Communists of Russia party on 1.4 per cent, and Yabloko currently under 1 per cent.

Russians went to the polls between September 17-19 to choose members of the State Duma, the lower house of parliament, as well as members of 39 regional parliaments and nine regional leaders. Voters have elected 450 State Duma deputies in total, via Russia’s hybrid electoral system. Half has been selected from party lists in one federal constituency, with the other 225 elected in single-mandate constituencies under the first-past-the-post voting system.

We cannot avoid organizational issues. The main document in our country, the one we live with and from which we depend, is the federal budget, we talked about this in our election campaign. Its amendments are being proposed permanently, we intend to get involved in this process without delay, and we will do so if the voters trust us and give us a sufficient number of votes.”
