Russian President Vladimir Putin urged citizens to participate in the upcoming elections to the Russian State Duma, speaking from Novo-Ogarevo, in Moscow, on Wednesday.

Please make your choice,” said Putin, urging citizens to show up at polling stations or ‘take advantage of the possibility of remote electronic voting.’

The Russian President also highlighted the general interest ‘in seeing responsible, active, and distinguished individuals enter parliament.’

SOT, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia (Russian): “Dear citizens of Russia! Dear friends! In the coming days - on September 17, 18, and 19 - the State Duma will hold elections. The election of a new State Duma is undoubtedly the most important event in the life of our society and country. We are all equally interested in seeing responsible, active, and distinguished individuals enter parliament. People who can keep their word, fulfill your orders and their promises, and justify the hopes and trust of Russian citizens. I must stress that the elections are, above all, an expression of the will of the Russian people as the main source of power. It is the exercise of the constitutional right of citizens to determine the future development of the country, which we all want to see sovereign and prosperous. We have a lot to do together, and the implementation of all our plans depends largely on the clever and competent work of the State Duma. This is one of the key bodies in the system of state power in Russia. It plays the principal role in the legislative process in passing laws that have supreme legal force and protect human rights and interests. The federal budget, the country’s main financial document, which is also adopted by parliamentarians, provides the basis for fulfilling the state’s social obligations, for implementing programmes to support families with children, for implementing regional development plans, and for developing cities and towns of our great country. This is all a painstaking, difficult work that excludes populism and empty rhetoric. It requires the utmost professionalism and a clear understanding that behind every decision and every legislative amendment, there lies the fate of millions of people. The updated Russian Constitution gave the State Duma extremely important powers to approve candidates for the Prime Minister, his deputies, and federal ministers. I want to put it bluntly: in the future, a great deal will depend on the constructive, working partnership between the legislative and executive branches of power. Today’s world is complicated. We see how rapidly, sometimes unpredictably, it is changing. Of course, this creates new challenges, but it also gives us great opportunities. To meet these challenges and effectively use new perspectives, we need coordinated work of the state, society, and citizens. We need a strong and authoritative parliament so that the deputies of the newly elected Duma act in the interests of Russia and our people and work for the people. So that they can be counted on as patriots of Russia, ready to resolutely and consistently ensure our national interests in all spheres. Dear friends! I urge you to take part in the upcoming voting, choose any day convenient for you from September 17, come to the polling stations, or take advantage of the possibility of remote electronic voting. Modern technology guarantees its security and reliability. I count on your responsible, balanced, patriotic citizenship and your desire to elect deputies who will work for the good of our beloved Motherland in the interests of our people and every citizen of Russia. Please make your choice.”
