A new Russian stealth heavy unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) - the Sukhoi S-70 Okhotnik-B - was inspected by representatives of the Russian Ministry of Defence, at the Novosibirsk aircraft production association plant on Tuesday.
A delegation of the Russian Ministry of Defence visited the plant to oversee the Okhotnik-B’s wheeling out. The Deputy Defence Minister of Russia Alexei Kryvoruchko told journalists that the ground testing of the S-70 Okhotnik-B will take place in several days ahead of a planned flight in a few months.
“It [the unmanned combat aerial vehicle] will be used both autonomously and controlled by aircraft. This vehicle will be capable of hitting targets of the ‘air-to-surface’ and ‘air-to-air’ categories,” said Commander of the Russian Aerospace Forces Sergei Surovikin.
Krivoruchko also announced the Russian Ministry of Defence’s intention to conclude a contract for the serial production of the S-70 Okhotnik-B.
The Rostec state corporation noted in a press statement that the vehicle is a ‘highly intelligent’ system capable of solving a wide range of tasks individually, in a group and together with manned aircraft.
The programme ‘Okhotnik’ has been under development since 2011. The first flight of the prototype with a traditional jet nozzle took place in August 2019. In the same year, a first joint flight with a Su-57 fighter jet took place.
