Russia’s acting Minister of Emergency Situations Alexander Chupriyan and Kemerovo Governor Sergei Tsivilev visited the survivors of the deadly Listvyazhnaya coal mine accident in the city of Leninsk-Kuznetskiy on Friday.

“Everything will be fine with you. We’ve just been told [about your condition], and they showed [medical image of] all your details. Things are good,” Chupriyan told the survivors of the accident.

After visiting the hospital, the officials paid tributes to the victims of the mine accident at a memorial set up in the city.

According to the latest info, 51 people, including 46 miners and five rescue workers who went in after the initial blast, died in the accident that occurred on Thursday in the Kemerovo region.

Thirty-eight miners and 11 rescuers are currently hospitalised, according to Tsivilev, who said one rescuer had a head injury and the other 10 suffered from gas poisoning.

There were 285 people in the mine at the time of the accident, the Ministry of Emergency Situations said. During the rescue operations, 237 miners were evacuated.

The Listvyazhnaya mine director and his first deputy are being held in custody, according to the Russian Investigative Committee. The investigators believe the deadly accident was most likely caused by a methane explosion.
