A railway bridge on the Trans-Siberian railway in the Trans-Baikal territory partially collapsed due to flooding caused by heavy rain, seen on Friday.

According to the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the region, the collapse occurred on the Kuenga-Ukurei stretch near the village of Nizhnaya Kuenga.

Train traffic was suspended in both directions, but no one was injured.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Trans-Baikal Territory, Andrei Gurulev, noted that six bridges in the Chernyshevskaya region were washed away due to floods, cutting off 12 rural villages.

“The Aleur River is currently on the rise by two and a half meters, it is at its most critical point. Somewhere it overflows the banks, floods settlements. But we have notified the residents, the temporary accommodation centres are ready, food is organised here,” said the head of the municipal Chernyshevsky district Viktor Nadelyaev.

The regional government reported that it organised the evacuation of people from the flooded areas.
