President Vladimir Putin led a massive naval parade in St Petersburg to mark Russia’s Navy Day.

Speaking at the event, the Russian president also announced 40 new ships and vessels for the Navy this year.

The ceremony featured almost 50 ships and more than 4,000 troops.

Russia has made military modernisation a top priority amid growing tensions with the West following the 2014 annexation of Crimea.
