Sad, obese shelter dog sheds half of her 'Jabba the Hutt' body

I got Bertha from a shelter in Ohio. She just looked quite sad and really needed somebody to help her. I offered to foster her from the shelter with the hopes of getting the weight off of her so that she was a more mobile, happier dog. And over the course of about 14 months, we started with a fitness program that began with hydrotherapy in the underwater treadmill at my canine rehabilitation clinic. 

And as she started to lose weight, she became more mobile. I was able to add more exercises also counting her calories, making sure she was on a very clean and pure diet. She did have to have a surgery on a tendon injury that was a result of her obesity, that really changed everything for her. She became much more mobile.

She did have a slight crisis because she developed an infection in her gallbladder and needed to have surgery for that. However, the end result is a very happy puggle that now weighs 29.5 pounds, which is down from the original 63 pounds that she weighed when she entered into the shelter.
