A team of entomologists removed the first nest of so-called giant ‘murder hornets’ found in the United States.

The scientists, in full protective gear, vacuumed the insects out of a tree cavity in Blaine, Washington state.

The Asian giant hornets are large and their sting can be lethal to humans, but they primarily pose a threat to honeybees that pollinate many crops.

Scientists recovered 98 hornets from the nest, including 13 that were captured alive in a net.

The captured specimens will be distributed to various researchers.
