Senior dog finds forever home after family abandons her

I rescued Poe over eight years ago from an open access shelter in Chicago, Illinois. She was already around 11 years old, when her family abandoned her and left her there. I’m not sure why they let her go, but she was not well taken care of. She found herself homeless. She had the most beautiful smile, but this just desperate look in her eyes. And I knew we had to help her.

Fast forward eight years later, and she’s 19 years old and is still living such a happy and wonderful life filled with love, warm beds, homemade meals. She brings us so much joy and she’s such a good sister to her brother, Finn, and her sister, Penny, both pit bulls as well. She goes to daycare with them a couple of days a week, and she keeps up with them. They call her Polish plus a daycare. She’s just so precious and everybody loves her. She’s kind of the sheriff there and tells all the dogs what to do. But when you’re that old, you can really do anything you want. Poe has become my best friend. 

I hit the jackpot with Poe, she’s my best friend. And she’s always smiling. I wish more people would adopt senior dogs. She’s been such a gift to me and my family, and I can never repay her for everything that she’s given me.
