Senior toothless chihuahua thrives after adoption fails

Bill is around 15 years old and is my only foster fail. Bill is not tired at all. He came to me from Chicago Animal Care and Control via Bow Wow Revolution as a foster dog. He was adopted out twice and returned. And once he started to have seizures, I knew he wasn’t going anywhere. Bill and Max, my resident’s senior dog formed a beautiful bond. And I adopted Bill as what I thought would be a hospice dog situation, but that was five years ago. 

Bill thrived from the beginning. Not only did he get healthier, as Max aged, Bill became his eyes and his ears. I couldn’t foster while caring for two senior dogs. So I started to help local rescues with events and fundraising. Bill quickly became a tiny sassy senior superstar and helped with numerous events, and fundraising initiatives from helping host a small dog tea party at the Drake hotel in Chicago to having his own Chihuahua wedding, 

He’s even had his own chihuahua wedding. Sadly, we lost Max two years ago. At 16 years old, I was really worried about Bill adjusting to being an only dog, but we quickly resumed fostering and he has proven to be a great foster brother, much like Max before him. It is truly amazing watching the reaction people have to Bill. He makes everyone smile. People often ask to take his picture and are always shocked to learn, he was rescued at 10 years old and just how active he is. I take Bill kayaking, biking, hiking, and even boating. 

He was part of an official Joe Biden for president video. Are you ready to go  work? He has pivoted from event hosts to my work from home assistant and is the star of many zoom meetings. Bill is pure joy and I can’t believe I almost let him go twice. I call him my little therapy peanut, and he rarely leaves my side. I never thought I would have a tiny, toothless senior chihuahua, but as it turns out, he was just what I needed. Bill is the perfect example of the potential of rescue dogs, and just how much they deserve a chance and are worth saving.
