Serbia: World's largest brass band festival returns to Guca

The 60th edition of the world’s biggest brass band festival kicked off in Guca on Saturday, after having been postponed in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Musicians could be seen proceeding through the town centre, passing by the ‘Guca trumpeter’ monument installed in honour of the annual event.

“I am here for the festival for the first time and I love it, it’s fantastic,” said Rudy, a visitor from The Netherlands, continuing, “there are no festivals there at this moment, so I came here, four days - it’s fantastic.”

The event was held with tight COVID-19 measures due to a rising number of infections within the country. Though the restrictions seem not to have stopped many foreign enthusiasts from joining the event.

SOT, Ishay, Visitor from Israel: “It’s not my first time, I was here two years ago in 2019, it was great and I will come again and maybe again and again. This year I bring my family here, we sleep here and enjoy it, didn’t still go drinking but I think we will go tonight.“

SOT, Manoeu, Visitor from France: “I am actually a trumpet player, I am really enjoying this event, it’s super cool, the weather is fantastic, Serbian people are really welcoming, it’s just one of the best events I’ve ever been to, really and super cool and super impressive trumpet performances.”
