Shelter dog finally finds a forever home after 700 days

Drools rescue story

I’m going to be living right in this room here. I run a non-profit animal welfare organization called Relay for Rescue. I reached out trying to find some dogs that had been in shelters for a long time and was immediately referred to Conour Animal Shelter in Monte Vista (Colorado) and Drools’ story. At that point, he was approaching 700 days. I really wanted to make an impact and continue to walk my talk.  So I called the shelter and said, “I’m moving in.” 

And they were like, “Okay, you’re crazy. But, come on in.” So I ended up staying there for a total of 12 nights. And after that on day number 729, he was adopted and on his way to his forever home. Bye Drools. We love you buddy.

This is truly been an experience of a lifetime. I went in committed to staying in the shelter with Drools until he got adopted. And not only did he find the perfect forever home, but he helped so many other dogs at the shelter find their forever homes as well. And the shelter itself has received an overwhelming amount of unexpected support and donations.
