‘Sicily BURNS as Temperatures Hit Highest EVER’

Sicily may have recorded Europe’s hottest ever temperature as wildfires rage across the region.

Thousands of acres of land across Southern Italy have been destroyed by the flames.

The temperature on the southern island rocketed to 48.8 degrees on Thursday.
Firefighters battled more than 500 fires in Sicily and Calabria on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile five water bombing planes were employed to douse the flames from above.

Four people are confirmed to have died in the wildfires, including a 30-year-old farmer.

Hot winds have been stoking deadly wildfires across the Mediterranean for weeks.

Temperatures are expected to remain high on Friday and over the weekend.
