‘Six Republicans Cross Aisle to Vote Trump Impeachment Trial is Constitutional’

The US Senate has voted 55-44 in favour of proceeding with the impeachment trial of Donald Trump.

The prosecution argued Trump was solely responsible for inciting the deadly US Capitol assault.

Trump’s defence argued the impeachment trial would open up ‘wounds across the nation’.

The result means the US Senate has found that the trial is constitutional.

However the result suggests Trump will be acquitted as a two-thirds majority will be required to convict in the evenly split 100-seat Senate.
