The Vosges mountains were decked out in white after heavy snowfall over the weekend, thanks to the season’s first blizzard.
Winter weather has arrived in France. Météo-France placed 24 departments under a yellow warning due to snow and ice.
The respective departments were mainly located in the north, northeast and center of France.
By evening Hohneck, one of the highest peaks of the Vosges mountain range, located about 3 hours from Luxembourg, was covered with snow.
According to local forecaster MétéoLor, the snowflakes were falling from 700/800 meters above sea level. The Météo des Vallées reported that temperatures hit zero degrees at about 1,000 meters and snowfall began at about 800 meters.
Meteorological services have shared posts on social media depicting snow on the Hohneck in the La Bresse area, which will open to skiers next month.
Similar scenes were observed at Markshtein peak at an altitude of about 1000 meters above sea level.
The Steinlebach Auberge, located on the Route des Crêtes in Markstein, also shared photos of a winter wonderland, while the Champ du Feu in Alsace offered its perfectly cozy snowy scenery.
