At least three bodies have been found after deadly unrest rocked the capital city of Honiara. 100 arrests have reportedly been made, as the town’s residents begin to face the aftermath of the recent week.

Damaged buildings could be seen in footage shot on Saturday.

Security forces were not able to stop unrest in the city that began on Wednesday, with protesters looting and setting fire to buildings, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare.

Several blame the government’s 2019 decision to end diplomatic ties with Taiwan and establish formal links with China.

The Australian government sent forces to control the situation, as requested by Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavore.
