Coach of Real Madrid Carlo Ancelotti commented on his team’s loss to newcomers Moldovan Sheriff Tiraspol in a press conference following the Champions League clash in Madrid, Tuesday.
The manager of ‘Los Blancos’ defended his team’s performance as reporters bombarded him with questions following the unexpected defeat.
“More than worried, we are sad. The team played a complete match. We played with intensity, with a lot of commitment”, Ancelotti said, however, pointing out that “many small details cost us the game”, along with some ‘bad luck’.
Ancelotti went on to praise the rival’s defence and ‘very compact’ style of play.
The coach concluded by stating the loss taught ‘Real Madrid’ a lesson to pay more attention to the smallest details, which would prevent ‘Los Blancos’ from underestimating the opponent in the future.

SOT, Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid manager (Spanish): “More than worried, we are sad. The team played a complete match. We played with intensity, with a lot of commitment. The small details in the first half in the middle and in the second half from a throw-in that was what cost us the game. Many small details cost us the game. There were moments where we had bad luck. But the game that the team played (showed), we had many opportunities and maybe we could be better in the last 30 metres. We could have been much better. It’s difficult to explain this defeat given the game we played.”

SOT, Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid manager (Spanish): “[FC] Sheriff defended well and defended with all they could. They were very compact at the back. We tried to play from the outside but we combined well many times from the back and in the middle but we played well. It was the small details where we could have been a bit more concentrated.”

SOT, Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid Coach (Spanish): “It can be a good lesson for the future because in such kind of games small details are determining: a throw-in, central, corner, a useless foul, all these cost you, they cost you. Now we state a defeat that the team didn’t deserve, honestly, for all they have done.”
