A group of demonstrators gathered in front of Madrid’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, to demand stronger action by the authorities to facilitate the return to Spain of Pablo Costas Villar, a sailor who is being held in Yemen.
The protest was called for by several trade unions and workers’ associations in solidarity with the Spanish sailor who has been held in Yemen for the last 10 months.
“Pablo Costas Villar is being held in a port and without consular attention or the attention of the foreign ministry of the most progressive government in history. If he were a skipper, if he were a military man, if he were a businessman, if he were a sportsman, he would not have been held for a week,” said one of the demonstrators.
Captain of the ship ‘Cobija,’ Pablo Costas Villar, is being held in the port of Al Mukalla along with the 31 crew members of the ship, who come from Peru, Indonesia, Senegal and Namibia origin. The group is being held following legal proceedings in Australia for illegal fishing.
