Dozens of fans gathered outside the Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona on Sunday to mark the farewell of footballer Lionel Messi to his club FC Barcelona after 21 years.

“My opinion is bad, everything indicated that he will stay, but at the end he is going away,” said Adrian, a fan.

Supporters could be seen lining the fences outside the stadium, which featured a large banner of Barca’s star players including Messi. Some of the fans wore Messi jerseys and the national colours of Argentina or FC Barcelona.

“I think that he isn’t going out in the best way, that they should do all the possible renew his contract, because there are a lot of players on the team that do not contribute anything to the team,” said Cristian, another supporter.

Messi won 35 titles with the Catalans and scored 672 goals in 778 competitive matches since his debut in October 2004.
