The ‘Funermostra’ 2021 funeral trade show opened doors in Valencia’s Fira Valencia exhibition space on Wednesday.
The show included a vast array of exhibits, with highlights including a replica of King Tut’s coffin, replicas of coffins which appeared in the Netflix hit-series ‘Squid Game’, eco-conscious urns made from recycled coffee grounds amid others.
The King Tut replica coffin was produced by the Spanish-based company Arcae, with the idea being prompted by a special order request made by a friend of the company’s director, Jose Morales, who is an antique collector.
“I thought about it for a few days and I came up with the idea of telling him that he deserved no less than a pharaoh and I decided to start making an imitation of the sarcophagus of Tutankhamun,” explained Morales.
Arcae also produced the ‘Squid Game’ replica coffins, which was made by the simple action of placing a pink bow on one of the models offered by the company.
According to Jose Vicente Aparicio, president of the Funermostra trade show, a ‘social change’ is taking place in ‘the way of conceptually understanding death.’
“We are facing a climate emergency and the sector has to adapt and anticipate to make all that are much more sustainable products, facilities and services,” explained Aparicio.
The trade show, currently in its 16th iteration, is set to go on until Friday, October 22.
